Fathers, sons gear up for classic car shows this weekend
It's no secret that Father's Day plays second fiddle to Mother's Day. RetailMeNot, one of the larger online coupon sites in the country, released the results of a new survey on June 11 that solidified this notion with research. Overall, the RetailMeNot found that 77 percent of both female and male respondents felt that fathers received less attention than mothers on Father's Day.
But, this doesn't have to be the case this year. According to the researchers, dads say they are fairly easy to please. Forty percent of the dads surveyed by RetailMeNot say they just want to spend time with their family eating dinner, grilling or going on an outing this holiday weekend.
If you're looking for a truly memorable outing idea, taking in a classic car show at one of the many events around the country may be a great way for you to get out with dad and enjoy the day.
In California, the 27th Annual Classic at Pismo Beach is being held from June 15 to June 17. One of the larger events of the weekend, approximately 175,000 attendees are expected to come to the free event to see 1,000 show vehicles, eat gourmet dinner and check out the the latest vendor products.
If you live in the Midwest, a trip to the Oakbrook Center in Oakbrook, Illinois may be in order. On Father's Day, the venue will host the 44th Annual Father's Day Classic Car Show. At this event, more than 90 antique and classic automobiles, including a 1929 Hupmobile Century, a 1960 Eldorado Biarritz and a 1937 Cadillac 7529 convertible, will be featured.
Elsewhere, dads can see a 1928 Rolls Royce Phantom at the Shelton Historical Society's Vintage Vehicles Antique and Classic Car Show in Connecticut, view more than 100 classic cars in Manitou Springs, Colorado and soak up the sun at the Father's Day Classic Car Show in Boca Raton, Florida.
